Collection of different size and color Unistraw straws

As time passes, the challenge of dealing with plastic waste has becomes an urgent global issue.

Much attention has been placed on problems resulting from litter on beaches and the large quantities of plastics
that have been allowed to flow into the seas.
Sipahh straws are made of cellulose acetate and when compared with common petroleum-based plastics,
cellulose acetate decomposes quite rapidly in both seawater and soil respectively (Figs 1 and 2). Cellulose
acetate is broken down to cellulose and acetic acid by the action of water in the natural environment.
Both cellulose and acetic acid are further decomposed by microbial action to carbon dioxide and water.
